THE DIFFERENCE IN CONSISTENCY:

When it’s inside the bottle, all air filter oils have a carrier agent mixed in with the oil. The purpose of the carrier agent is to keep the oil thin and viscous so that it easily and uniformly spreads through the air filter foam when it is being applied. The carrier agent then evaporates, just leaving behind the oil. Most air filters oils are more “liquid” in nature and stay “wet” even after the carrier agent dries. This is the first major difference between FunnelWeb Oil and the competition; our oil “dries” to a more “grease-like” consistency. Why is this a benefit? Read on…

MIGRATION:

For our competition, filter oil migration is a major problem. Because their oil stays “wet” after application, it can travel. You’ll notice this on many new bikes on the showroom floor; a puddle of air filter oil can often be found dribbling out the bottom of the airbox and even running down the kickstand. Why is this? Thanks to gravity, most air filter oils will slowly drain out of the filter. And since an adequate amount of oil is the ONLY thing that makes an air filter work, your engine’s protection is literally draining away!

FWF oil, on the other hand, never migrates. Because it dries to a more grease-like consistency, it stays put. It will never gravity-drain out like the competition, and it remains perfectly in place for those who like to pre-oil their filters and bag them for later use; there’s no need to squeeze/knead the filter to re-distribute the oil before installation.

Oil Migration isn’t solely limited to gravity; dirt can also cause most air filter oils to move. Because competitors’ oils stay “liquid”, they are drawn to the surface of the air filter when dirt hits the filter. Dirt is like a sponge that soaks up regular filter oil and takes it away from the filter foam where it belongs. During a long, super dusty race, the dirt will work its way in farther and farther into the filter because the dirt is pulling the oil out of the foam, so there is nothing to keep the dirt from getting in. With regular filter oil, it’s only a matter of time before dust gets all the way through the filter.

But because FunnelWeb Oil stays put, it can do its job and keeps all dust and dirt out of your engine no matter how demanding the conditions!

What about “Tack”? Tacky air filter oil is actually bad because it encourages dirt to stick right on the surface, which makes a crust that inhibits air flow. A sticky filter oil is just a magnet for dust; FWF oil’s grease-like texture is the perfect consistency for keeping your filter filtering properly and ensuring your air boot and engine stay dirt-free!

WATER AND WASH-OUT:

Not only does a good air filter oil have to perform in dry conditions, it also has a tough job to do in water and mud!

Many popular filter oils on the market today are made with biodegradable oil, and as such they all have the same problem – Bio oils are WATER soluble. This means that in wet conditions, water splashed up on the filter is actually diluting and washing away your engine’s protection! In a mud race with lots of puddles, it’s only a matter of time before water is able to work its way past competitors’ oils and go straight into your motor – game over!

Because FWF Oil is a petroleum oil, water doesn’t affect it, and it can’t wash it out or get diluted. In fact, the grease-like consistency of FunnelWeb oil actually repels water enough that it could save your day if you have a quick tip-over in a water crossing.

At the end of the day, your air filter is only as good as the filter oil you are using. Give your bike the absolute best combination of performance and protection by running a FunnelWeb Filter oiled with FunnelWeb Oil!

How to Apply:

Start with a clean, dry foam filter, put the desired amount of Filter Oil on the filter. Work the oil through the entire filter, squeezing out any excess oil. Do not twist or wring out the filter. Check if the filter is even and fully covered. Allow the oiled filter to sit out in a well-ventilated area for 30 minutes before riding to let carrier agent evaporate.
